Graphing the Derivative

Some of the lessons ask you to graph a function and its derivative on the graphing calculator.  I have posted written instructions and a recording in the Resource in  section 0 called Tools and Links and Useful Things.  There is a page with all kinds of techniques for using the graphing calculator; you can find the links there.

Term 2 Begins!

Today is the first day of term 2 in marking period 2.  Grades for term 1 will be posted on Monday, 12/5, and will reflect all assignments due up to and including 11/29.

Field Trip

Attention PALCS Math Students:
A few PALCS math teachers will be in the Pittsburgh Office on December 1 and 2, and we have some activities planned for YOU!!

Thursday Dec 1: Join us at the Landings for a pizza party at 1:00.  Right after lunch, we’ll play a few games: Minute to Win It & Are You Smarter Than a PALCS Teacher?
To end the afternoon, we’ll have an opportunity for you to work with a teacher FACE TO FACE (live tutoring).

Friday Dec 2: After Thursday’s day of fun at the office, we’ll go on a field trip to the Carnegie Science Center.  Meet your teachers at the Science Center at 10am and bring a bag lunch or $$ for food.  Each student gets in for free and can bring 1 home facilitator for free as well.

IMAX tickets and demonstration tickets can be purchased at the Science Center.  They are not included in our free tickets.

Send a moodle message to Mr. Hollick if you have questions and if you are interested in attending one or both days!

Monday, 11/28

I will be unavailable today, due to a personal matter.

The photos speak for themselves:

Hope to see you all on Tuesday!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving and a restful break.

I will be out of the office on Wednesday,  so I can’t answer the phone, and will not be able to answer messages, as we will be on the road all day.

See you all on 11/28!

Tuesday, 11/22

Today’s schedule is the usual Tuesday, with chats for calculus and algebra, followed by a meeting in the afternoon.

I will not be in the office on Wednesday, but will probably check in over the break.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Week of 11/21

Just a heads up — I will be out of the office on Wednesday, 11/23, and unavailable for chats and office hours, so please plan accordingly.

Chats will be held as usual on Monday and Tuesday, but they are the last ones for the week

Friday, 11/18

Happy Friday!

The weekend is here, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  I wanted to let you know that I will be out of the office on Wednesday, 11/23, so there will be no chats or office hours; please plan accordingly.

Don’t forget your second attempts on homework — this can help boost your grade, if you come for help between attempts to go over what you don’t understand.

Have a great day!

11/17

There is a teacher training today starting at 9 AM, so I will be unavailable  all morning.  Please mm me before 9 or come to office hours if you need help.

11/15

Can you believe that we are already one week into marking period 2?

Don’t forget, the last day in term 1 of marking period 2 is 2 weeks from today, November 29.  This is another hard deadline, so be sure to stay current with your assignments.

Remember that Tuesdays and Thursdays are the days of my most limited availability, so plan accordingly.  I cannot respond to anyone while in chat or at meetings.  Check the schedule for days and times.

Have a great day!
